Tempe is known for its technology companies, the research at Arizona State University and many other colleges and, of course, if there’s one thing Tempe knows, it’s how to throw a party.
In partnership with the Downtown Tempe Community, LaunchSpot and Tempe Maker Bench, join us for Geeks Night Out – the Science of Fun. We’ll be blending science, technology and fun together to celebrate the Arizona SciTech Festival.
Come to Mill Avenue for a very special Third Thursday, themed to bring out the curiosity within. We’ll have movies, music, medicine and a Brainiac Walk, where you can dress up like your favorite inventor, invention or science project gone wrong. If you are an inventor, you can show off your idea to someone who can help you bring it to market. And if you just want to hang out, you can learn how beer and wine are made and maybe sample a little local brew.
Check out some of the fun we’re planning for Feb. 16. This is still just a plan, and we’ll update this webpage as things are firmed up. In the meantime, put the date on your calendar and get ready to learn something new.
LaunchSpot Innovators Area Inside MADCAP Theater 6-8 p.m.
Are you an inventor? Pitch your devices and ideas to angel investors, the Tempe incubator, and a tech attorney – and maybe you can get some help bringing your product to market.

Makerville Ground floor of MADCAP 5-9 p.m.

New Tempe business Maker Bench will lead the way in demonstrating what can be done with the right tools, the right ideas and the best engineering. Owner Dave Uhlman will have a variety of kid and adult friendly mechanical and engineering projects that people can work on.

Science of Health and Wellbeing Outside MADCAP 5-9 p.m.

We’re hoping to bring some medical testing companies to both provide testing and show how tests work.

Alchemy of Alcohol Upper floor of MADCAP lobby 5-9 p.m.

See how these grains and grapes become beer and wine while sampling locally grown products. We’re looking into a home brew contest, too.

Science of Haunting Tour lead by AZ ghosthunters at 8 p.m

Want to connect with the dead? Learn how ghosthunting tools work and explore local haunts, including Monti’s, and Casey Moore’s, that are favorites of those who have crossed over.

MADCAP Brainiac Walk Guided walk along the sidewalks of Mill from 7th Street to 3rd Street 7:30 p.m.

Dress up like your favorite genius, science project gone wrong, zombie or mad scientist and walk down the sidewalks of Mill Avenue proudly. Gather in front of MADCAP at 7:30 p.m. Post photos to DTC Flickr page for a costume contest. DTC Ambassadors will guide the walk to ensure safety.

Fun Science Fiction movies come to downtown Tempe theaters.

The Science of Music On Mill Avenue street corners 5-9 p.m.

Bands with a science bend will perform on Mill Avenue street corners.

Astronomy/Astrology On Mill Avenue(Locations TBD) 7-9 p.m.

We’re planning to have some telescopes pointed at the sky with astronomers nearby to explain what you’re seeing. Astrologers (mathematical astronomy) may be set up inside nearby Mill Avenue bars and restaurant patios to pair the science with the entertainment.
